It is the set of literary texts written in Arabic; it is not usual, therefore, to include the works that are written using the Arab alphabet but not the language, how it is the case of the Persian literature and of the literature in urdú language. The Arab word used for literature is àdab ,que drift of a verb, àduba, that means "to be polite, courteous”
The Arabic literature only emerged to the 6th century and of dates former him they preserve some fragments. The Quran (writing in a definite way among 644-655) is the main literary fountain of the Arab culture and of its literature. The tradition explains that the caliph Alí ibn Abi-Tàlib, after reading a Quran with errors, urged Abu-l-Àswad ad-Dualí to write a work in which the grammar of the Arab was coded. Al-Khalil ibn Àhmad, further later on, would write Kitab al-ayn, the first dictionary of Arab, together with works about prosody and music, and its disciple, Sibawayh, would produce the work more respected of arabic, known grammar simply like Al-kitab, The book.
